Danube Day in Ukraine

Ukraine joined this past summer's celebrations of ‘Our Danube – Our Future’ with plenty of activities and enthusiasm!

Despite the ongoing hardships faced by communities in southern Ukraine, Danube Day 2025 was marked with extraordinary resilience and commitment. 

Celebrations along the Lower Danube shone a spotlight on education, science, and environmental protection—proving once again the power of unity and hope through shared river stewardship.

🧠 Danube Quiz for Kids – Kilia (28 June 2025)
Children in Kilia took part in lively and interactive sessions, learning about Danube biodiversity, the threats facing the river, and what they can do to protect it. Laughter, learning, and local pride filled the day—an uplifting moment for all involved.

🧪 Citizen Science Sampling – Lower Danube (27 June 2025)
Young scientists rolled up their sleeves to take water samples using official JDS5 tools. Their hands-on participation contributed to real-time environmental monitoring—bringing science and action directly to their communities.

📢 Press Conference on JDS Results – Kilia (28 June 2025)
National experts presented key findings from previous Joint Danube Surveys and introduced the goals of JDS5. The event fostered public dialogue on environmental priorities and showcased Ukraine’s continued scientific engagement, even in the most trying circumstances.

💙 These activities are a testament to Ukraine’s unwavering dedication to the Danube and to future generations.
