Danube Day in Germany

Danube Day 2026 in Germany kicked off in style with the vibrant Flag Walk along the Danube in Ulm and Neu-Ulm, marking the opening of the 14th International Danube Festival (Donaufest). Colourful flags representing the many nations of the Danube basin were carried through the twin cities, symbolising the unity and shared heritage of the countries connected by the river — fittingly echoing this year's theme, "United by Danube!" The Flag Walk drew great public interest, with an estimated 300 to 500 people taking part in or witnessing the event, helping set a festive tone for the days of cultural celebration that followed.

Further downstream, the River Inn Museum in Rosenheim marked a milestone of its own, celebrating its 40th anniversary on 31 July with free guided tours and special activities for visitors, offering a closer look at the natural and cultural history of the Inn — one of the Danube's most significant tributaries.

Meanwhile, in Deggendorf, the Schiffmeisterhaus hosted the photo exhibition "By Kayak from the Black Forest to the Black Sea" from 29 June to 3 July, taking visitors on a visual journey following the Danube from its source in the Black Forest all the way to its mouth at the Black Sea.

This year's Danube Day events were organised by the Donaubüro Ulm/Neu-Ulm, together with the Art Quarter Budapest and SUN Sportmanagement GmbH, alongside the River Inn Museum, Rosenheim, and the Schiffmeisterhaus, Deggendorf.
