This year, events across the country invite families, schoolchildren, and nature enthusiasts to discover the Danube's unique ecosystems, its rich cultural heritage, and the importance of protecting our shared waters.

1. Danube Days at the White Carpathian House of Nature – Quiz Contest & Sturgeon Demonstration

As part of the Erste Partnership, the White Carpathian House of Nature in Veselí nad Moravou hosts a lively and educational afternoon for families and visitors of all ages. Highlights include a quiz contest on the Danube River, rivers as habitats, and the role of water in the landscape, with prizes awarded at an official ceremony. The evening continues with a concert on the bank of the Morava River, refreshments, and activities for families. A special feature will be a live demonstration of the sterlet (Acipenser ruthenus), a Danube sturgeon species, alongside a presentation of its natural habitat.

2. Danube Days at the White Carpathian House of Nature – Lecture & Photography Exhibition

Also as part of the Erste Partnership events in Veselí nad Moravou, former Czech diplomat, traveller and writer Zdeněk Lyčka shares his remarkable journey along the Danube. In 2015 and 2016, Lyčka kayaked the second-longest river in Europe in two stages: from its source all the way to the delta, navigating dozens of rapids, locks, dams, and weirs, and passing through ten countries and four European capitals. His lecture and accompanying photography exhibition capture the diversity and unique character of the Danube and make a compelling case for its protection.

3. Open Day at the Water Research Institute, Prague

The T. G. Masaryk Water Research Institute opens its doors to the public for a special Danube Day Open Day. Visitors can explore the institute's facilities through guided tours, including large-scale models of riverbeds and dams, aquariums, and an experimental wastewater treatment plant. Children are also invited to take part in a dedicated workshop featuring games, worksheets, and creative activities.
