Danube Day goes global, with celebrations at the 2008 World Water Expo in Zaragoza, Spain. With more than seven million people expected at Expo, including 2000 international experts in the field of water, the Danube Day message will spread right around the globe. Danube Day representatives will be in Zaragoza in force with members from seven Danube countries: Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia and Romania. Water and Sustainable Development is the theme for this year's Expo (opening 14th June). The huge event will cover 60 acres with more than 27 structures designed by some of the world's leading architects, all on the theme of water, including the world's largest river aquarium.
Visitors arriving at each of the Expo Country Pavilions on 29th June will be met with Danube Day banners and posters. Each person will be presented with a ‘Danube Passport' for which they can collect stamps from each of the seven Danube countries and receive a prize. The Danube Box, the ICPDR's educational tool kit for promoting protection of the Danube Basin, will also be displayed. Later in the day, the ‘Blue Danube Waltz' will see hundreds of people in Danube Day T-shirts dance for the Danube in the ‘Shared Water' Pavilion (16:00). There will also be films showcasing the Danube Day celebrations over the past 5 years (as well as other Danube projects) and a press conference at 17:00.
