Vukovar Film Festival

A spectacular photographic exhibition, presenting scenes along the entire Danube from source to mouth, is the result of a new collaboration between Danube Day and the Vukovar Film Festival of Croatia. The international festival (9-13 July 2008), now in its second year, is directly bound with the Danube. This comes from not only showcasing the most interesting cinematography from ten Danube Basin countries, but also because the actual cinema is floating on the river! Probably the only one of its kind in the world, the open-air cinema consists of a converted barge moored in the city. This year's festival highlights Romanian cinema.

Linking up with the Vukovar Film Festival will raise the profile of the River Danube with an audience notoriously difficult to engage: the next generation of Danube users. The film festival is the first chance for most young Vukovar residents to experience cinema as the city's previous film-houses were destroyed during the Croatian War for Independence in the 1990s. The exhibition will take place at the renovated Lavoslav Ružička Museum in Vukovar.
