Danube Day 2009 was a superb celebration of all that has been achieved in the 15 years since the signing of the Danube River Protection Convention in 1994. From a landmark Stakeholder Forum to events that saw children make friends across borders, the event was a success across the region. Danube Day is huge: in 2009, 420 organisations worked together to mark the day and plan a susainable future. The celebration continues to expand in size and influence each year. For detailed information on the myriad of international, national and local events that have taken place over the last six years, click on the reviews for 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005 and 2004.
The ICPDR launched Danube Day on June 29th 2004 to celebrate 10 years of cooperation between governmental and non-governmental bodies, scientific institutions and industries, following the signing of the Danube Convention in 1994. It has since become a fixed event in the calendars of ministers and water organisations throughout the basin. The ICPDR is working closely with the Danube Environmental Forum (DEF), International Association for Danube Research (IAD), Global Water Partnership (GWP), WWF, Alcoa Foundation and businesses such as Coca-Cola.
