Hermann Strampfer, Head of Tübingen District Administration, and Alexander Leitz, Mayor of Ertingen, will begin the day by welcoming children and teachers to the area. Local officials will outline the large-scale project to re-instate natural floodplains and the children will investigate the ecology and geography of the Danube and report back their impressions.

The 2nd July award ceremony will mark the completion of the search to find this year's young Danube Art Master for Germany. This international schools competition, overseen by the Danube Environmental Forum and now in its seventh year, challenges every pupil in the Basin to create a piece of environmental art inspired by their local river. The only rules are that you should be as creative as possible and think about what the Danube means to you. If you need some ideas, check out the Inspiration page. Starting at Ingolstadt in Germany just before Danube Day, Pinchas, Robin, Julian & Ramin are rowing the 1516 km to Sfantu Gheorghe in Romania aboard their boat, the Käptn Blaubär. On their way, they will pass through Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania. Check out the boys in their Danube Day T shirts on their blog (see entry for 3rd July) and view the TID web site.
